Little Red Wagon Challenge #287 ~ "B" lieve It!!

Hello there.  It is Wednesday and while you are looking at my card for this week's challenge at Little Red Wagon I am either a) still sleeping as it is a 2 hour time difference or b) playing with my grandchildren.  I will be back "in person" in a few days but for now am super glad I can preschedule posts.  Our hostess for this week's challenge is Janice and she wants us to "B"LIEVE IT! ~ use things that start with the letter "B" (and, in her words, one thing is fine).

And, myself, being the overachiever that you all know I try to be (cough!cough) have used many items on this card beginning with the letter B ~ boy, beach, blues, brown, a button and some bling.  This would be the first time I have sponged my own background using a combination of Tim Holtz Distress Inks.  And since I liked the result I may try this again sometime too.

Mixed Media Canvases

Good Morning.  It is the weekend and I am off!! Whoo hoo!!!  It is exciting for a couple of reasons ~ I work retail so only get one weekend off a month and it is one more sleep until I head for beautiful British Columbia to visit my family.  So looking forward to that and some good quality grand baby snuggles (I hope ~ it has been a while since they have seen me!)

I hinted that I have been working with other mediums lately besides just paper crafting.  I have two mixed media canvases to share that are both very different in style.  I enjoyed both and look forward to making some more.

This first 12" x 12" ecru canvas was made with scrapbook paper and Mod Podge along with a wood element that I painted and distressed.  Lots of flowers and pearls are the finishing touches to this one.  It is a very pretty canvas and is my style even if it is outside the box a bit.

The second 8" x 8" canvas is using more "art" supplies ~ heavy duty gesso, stencils and lots of paint.  It also incorporates a scrub brush (covered in pink paint), bubble wrap and a plastic shot glass.  Lots of fun and messiness involved.

I think I may incorporate both styles into my next one using the paint and stencil and adding the bits and bobs such as the flowers.  Who knows?  The sky is the limit with creativity.  So glad I took the chance and gave it a try.

What new thing will you try today???

Little Red Wagon Challenge #286 ~ Spots, Dots, Blots!

Hey there and yep, it is that time of the week again, Wednesday and a new challenge at Little Red Wagon.  This week our hostess is Joanne and she is seeing SPOTS, DOTS AND BLOTS! She wants to see some kind of spots or dots or blots on your project.

For those of you that are tracking with me, it is 4 more sleeps until I see my son, daughter-in-law and two amazing grandchildren.  I am pretty stoked if I do say so myself....LOL!!!

Okay, on to the subject at hand.  I have been having fun trying out different media on both canvas and paper in the last while.  This card I used a stencil, Goosebump texture spray and Tim Holtz mini distress inks to create my "blots".  It was both fun and messy at the same time.  Anyone who knows me well knows that messy and I don't get along but I am getting better at it.  After all, cleaning up works too!  First you inked up one colour of a splat (I did the red first), and then used a make up sponge without moving the stencil to cover over the ink with the Goosebump spray.  This created a resist and I moved the stencil around repeating it with all 4 colours.  I then sprayed the Goosebump spray and inked with black to create the background.  I did wipe over each colour with a damp cloth to take out any residue black that may have stuck to make the colours more vibrant and the white spots whiter instead of grey.

RECIPE:
Stencil ~ The Crafter's Workshop Mini Splats

Patterned Paper ~ Echo Park A Perfect Summer

Thanks for dropping in today.  Come by later this week to see some of the other mixed media projects I have done.  I believe I am getting hooked.  Don't forget to drop in at Little Red Wagon to see what the other girlfriends have for you in the way of SPOTS, DOTS AND BLOTS and then link up one of your own.

Until next time, keep crafting.

Little Red Wagon Challenge #285 ~ Travelogue

Good morning, crafty peeps!  Welcome to another Wednesday and a new challenge at Little Red Wagon.  It is my turn to hostess this week's challenge on the blog and my theme is TRAVELOGUE ~ make something inspired by a different country.  It could be from somewhere you would like to visit one day, somewhere you have been and want to go back to, the country of your ancestry~ endless possibilities on what inspires you.

I coloured up this Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps cutie with her shopping bags standing in front of the Eiffel Tower.  I paired her with some pastel papers, an Eiffel Tower charm and a big bow and she is all ready to take me to France where I can use my limited knowledge of French.  (On a side note, 11 more sleeps until I am going travelling, just in my own country but I get to visit with my son and his family and am so excited! Maybe I should have used the mountains as my inspiration for this project although that is not another country. But I digress....)

Little Red Wagon Challenge #284 ~ Spring is in the Air!!!

Good Morning!  Just typing "SPRING IS IN THE AIR!" brings a smile to my face.  I like Winter.  I like Fall.  Summer is just okay as I don't really enjoy the heat.  But Spring.....yes, Spring....is the best time of the year.  Animals come out of hibernation.  Birds return.  And flowers and trees are budding and blooming.  Which also brings about allergies but that's a whole different post...hee!!hee!!

"SPRING IS IN THE AIR!" at Little Red Wagon this week with our hostess Collette wanting to see a floral theme on your project.  So dig out your floral papers, your floral die cuts, your floral stamps and show us what you can do with them.

I used a stamp/die set I had in my stash and had not used before.  It was tricky getting the hang of it at first (you'd have thunk this was my first time cutting out dies if you saw my first attempt) but I like how the flowers are layered over the leaves.  I used coloured card stock for the background of the flowers as white was just too stark.

RECIPE:
Card Stock ~ Recollections
Patterned Paper ~ Simple Stories Enchanted
Dies ~ Spellbinders Shapabilities Flower Stamp/Die Set
~ Spellbinders Shapabilities Foliage
~ Spellbinders Nestabilities Floral Ovals
~ Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Ovals (LG)
Inks ~ Studio G
~ Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
~ Tim Holtz Mowed Lawn Distress Ink
Sentiment ~ CARDZ TV Think Spring
Simple Stories Enchanted Enamel Dots
Ribbon ~ Celebrate It

So let's welcome Spring in style this week.  Join us at Little Red Wagon, check out what the other girlfriends have created and link up your project.  Have a wonderful Wednesday.
